Tackle any problem with 100 solutions by yourself.

I read books about personality development to get inspiration and to become more productive in my life. Recently I found this technique called the list of 100 solutions in Litemind. (photo via)

The Idea is very simple, theoretically. Define your problem in the top of a blank sheet of paper and come up with a list of one hundred answers or solutions about it.

You may think that it's impossible to find 100 solutions but once you start listing your solutions, your subconscious mind gets engaged in the process that will uncover many new and surprising answers and ideas will start flowing again. And you may even come to the conclusion that you should be dealing with a different list topic altogether.

Keep in mind the following rules before starting this exercise.
  • You should do this exercise in one sitting. So don't let your mind to think other stuff till you find 100 solutions. Therefore before starting your list, make yourself comfortable and try to block all potential interruptions.
  • Don't judge or evaluate your solutions. You can do it later.
  • Don't stop to wonder how far in the list you are. You can number the lines from 1 to 100 in advance or use numbered lists if you are using a word processor.
  • Not to worry if you repeat the entries, duplicates can shed light on your patterns of thought.
To know how and why it works, continue reading here.

Truly, I just tried this technique and it realy changed my attitude towards problem solving. I think this technique can be related to the principle stated in our epic Bhavadgita that says " No body helps you except yourself".
